Continuing Care Retirement Communities have independent, assisted living and nursing home care on one campus. There is frequently a substantial financial investment to be admitted to one of these campuses. However, there are some campuses that are rental only and do not require the capital investment. The selling point of these campuses is that they provide all services on my campus and do not require the senior to relocate to another campus as they age in place. The senior may not require a move to another campus, but the senior will be required to move to another building or unit for higher levels of care such as assisted living and nursing home care. This may be as distressing to the senior as moving across town.
Depending on the funding strategy for the CCRC they may provide life time care for the senior. Once the senior has meet the financial criteria for admission, the CCRC will provide the senior with services until they die. This is a comfort to some seniors and their families. Others do not want the inflexibility of committing to one organization in case there is not a fit or the situation changes.
